Ravi Kapoor was born on 7 April 1942 in Amritsar in a Punjabi Khatri family. His father were Amarnath and Krishna Kapoor who started their jewelery business in Mumbai. According to reports, this jewelery was supplied to the film industry. Ravi Kapoor had studied from Mumbai only.

His classmate during college was Rajesh Khanna. Jitendra was inclined towards films and often when he used to go to give jewelery the thought of acting came to his mind. Actor Jitendra himself had told about this in one of his interviews. Jitendra was a fan of V. Shantaram and wanted to meet him once but no one allowed him to meet him. He would often carry artificial jewelery but the jewelery would be returned after delivery.

Jitendra, who wanted to work in films, once came to know that auditions for V. Shantaram’s film Sehra were going on. He took training in auditioning from his friend Rajesh Khanna because he had never done theater whereas Rajesh Khanna used to do theater at that time. After taking training, when he entered V Shantaram’s studio, he came to know that the heroine’s body double was being shot there and Jeetendra fit into it.

Jitendra had mentioned this in Kapil Sharma’s show. Jeetendra played the role of body double of actress Sandhya Shantaram. After this he worked as a junior artist in some films. One day came for which Jitendra was waiting. V Shantaram called him to his office and offered him a film. This was a jackpot for Jeetendra, he said yes without reading the script or hearing the role.
